     Welcoming Spring with bonfires, choral singing and fireworks. Most extravagant celebrations at the Skansen museum.
     
  • Midsummer Celebrations - 20.06.2004 - 21.06.2004
    Particularly at Tjolohölm Castle, the Skansen museum and Dalarna.
     
  • Folk Music Festival. Falun - 09.07.2004 - 10.07.2004
     
  • Liseberg Christmas market (select days, mid-November-Dec. 23) - December
    More than 50 shops and stalls sell everything from herring and sausages to embroidery and hand-painted ornaments. The Skansen open air museum also puts on a traditional market, with a special exhibition on Swedish Christmas traditions over the centuries.
     
  • Lucia Day - 13.12.2004
    The coronation of Lucia, the bearer of light. Celebrated all over Sweden amid the darkest time of the year, when a young woman is chosen to lead the annual procession of light. Smaller celebrations in Helsinki, including parade at Cathedral-Finlandia Hall.

  • Vasaloppet Ski Race - 02.04.2004
     The world’s longest cross-country skiing race between Sälen and Mora covering 90km with some 30,000 participants.
     
  • Tjejtrampet. Stockholm - 25.05.2004
    The world’s biggest ladies’ cycle race.
     
  • Restaurants Day. Stockholm - 05.06.2004 - 09.06.2004
    Stockholm’s restaurant chefs show their skills, near the King’s Palace.
     
  • National Day - 06.06.2004
    Celebrated at Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum, with songs, speeches and other festivities. Marks the election of Gustav Vasa as king on June 6, 1523, laying the foundation of Sweden as a separate state, and the adoption on that date in 1809 of a new constitution including the establishment of civil rights and liberties.
