Social intervention in Molenbeek

The volunteer wishes to develop a social project with the help of her current employer, a social restaurant "Snijboontje" in a deprived area of Brussels with a strong presence of North-African immigrants. The volunteer did her EVS in Brussels in an international environmental organisation. During her stay she got to know the European nature of Brussels and wishes now to make the socially excluded young people in Molenbeek "rediscover" their own town and with this break their isolation. She wants to give them practical guidance in finding their way in Europe, making them aware of the opportunities offered to them by different European youth programmes.

EVS News

The two volunteers would like to start a newspaper for both Flemish volunteers abroad and foreign volunteers in Flanders (as well as their respective hosting and sending organisations), to keep them informed of what is happening with the programme. Their aim is to share good practices and experiences as well as reinforce the links between the different actors involved in EVS, and make them really work in a network. The newsletter will include statements written by the volunteers doing the programme, as well as articles of general interest on volunteering.

Employment Service for Agronomy engineers and students

The volunteer wishes to develop the employment services of his previous university. At present the AIALv, (Association des anciens ingιnieurs agronomes de Louvain), does not have neither a part-time nor a full-time person to provide students and graduates with information about training and job opportunities. However, this volunteer learned about EVS trough this association and he believes that providing a full-time service to the "clients" of the association would be very important not only to promote EVS but also to transform this service into a real path to employment for young students and graduates. He would like to create a web-site with information on jobs, collect relevant information and give advice to potential "clients" looking for engineering jobs. He has the support of the AIALv to develop this project.

During his EVS in Belgium he developed a number of activities on ecological issues for the young foreigners staying at his youth centre. He is now working for a local municipality has "Animateur Nature". The volunteer would use Future Capital as a complement to the activities that he is carrying in his municipality responsible for providing the framework for the ecological work whereas the volunteer wishes to add to it the "youth element". To accomplish this the volunteer would like to follow a course of "Animateur Jeunesse" to be able to develop better his work with young people on ecological matters. He would also need special pedagogical materials directed at young people.
